“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

mame luxury soy candles
what inspired you to start your business?
Our candles are made from 100 percent soy wax, pure essential oils and cotton wicks. They are hand poured and hand scented personally in small batches to ensure the best quality soy candle. Because the candles are made with 100 percent soy wax, they burn much longer and much cleaner than other designer candles. Each candle comes complete with signature MAME craft box wrapping and include a small description card of our product and our mission in creating it.

anniewhere paper goods
what inspired you to start your business?
I have been making one holiday card design every year since I was 10 years old. At first cards were given as Christmas gifts (by me) to my grandparents, teachers and other important grown-ups in my life. At some point I started sending them to my friends as holiday greetings. After many years and many designs, at a rather unbalanced point in my life, I didn’t send them out. All of the regular recipients said that every holiday season they look forward to seeing new designs and that they have kept all of the previous ones. After hearing that (and with a big smile in my heart), I decided to start sharing my paper goods with more people. That is how annieWHERE came about.
Tell us a bit about your work and some of your favorite materials you use in your creations:
annieWHERE is a line of unique and modern paper goods, designed by hand, using simple shapes and bold colors. Most of my designs have a minimalist quality and are indirectly influenced by appreciation of Scandinavian design and lifestyle. I tend to think of my work as “collage reduced”. All of the designs are cut, folded and placed by hand. I hand pick all the papers and am often inspired by the color (of the paper) itself. Some of my designs are made using handmade paper containing fibers from plants growing in the desert. This gives cards a softer feel, but also a connection to the place. I am also a big lover of maps and my “you are HERE” line uses cut-outs from discarded maps.
What is your favorite spot in Phoenix? AZ?
I love exploring the city and all that it has to offer–from known establishments, to hidden spots and everything in between. My favorite city spots are Phoenix Public Market on Saturday mornings and Papago Park in the early morning light.

folding chair designs
What inspired you to start your business?
I have always loved to create accessories. With just a little imagination and some fun supplies, you can create something new and original. I knew I wanted to offer jewelry and accessories that were not covered in rhinestones, glitter, and doilies. Once I started making things for friends and family as gifts, they encouraged me to try selling online. Before long, I was hooked.
Tell us a bit about your work and some of your favorite materials you use in your creations:
I love making accessories, they are a great way to stay on trend without breaking the bank. Accessories are also a great way to make an old outfit look new again! Vintage materials are my favorite things to use. The colors are bright, the patterns are interesting, and the textures are so different than modern materials. I also love hand embroidery, I bring in embroidered accents whenever I can. Wool felt is another favorite. The colors and feel of the felt are so colorful and fun to add to any other material.
What is your favorite spot in Phoenix? AZ?
My favorite spot in Phoenix is the Phoenix Art Museum. I’m an Art History major and I could spend hours there. My favorite spot in AZ would have to be Tombstone, it’s just the right amount of kitschy/cheesiness and amazing history.

I started an online custom stationery design shop because I’ve always enjoyed creating paper goods as gifts for friends and family and wanted to share my designs with others. All of my work is inspired by my surroundings and those close to me. I have a passion for creating meaningful, detailed pieces to help set the tone for a party or make someone’s day special.

the red dutch door
what inspired you to start your business?
The dream for our business started on our front porch as we watched the kids play and we listened to each others stories. From there, our families began to live life together and our joy and delight in making things became The Red Dutch Door. We love the idea of making everyday moments special and The Red Dutch Door does just that!
Tell us a bit about your work and some of your favorite materials you use in your creations:
We love making anything and everything that offers a colorful mix of vintage and modern design. Some of our favorite materials include knits, felts, yarn and fabrics with rich color and texture.
What is your favorite spot in Phoenix? AZ?
Our favorite place in the greater Phoenix area is our very own neighborhood, Agritopia. If we’re not riding our bikes or visiting with neighbors, you can find us at Joe’s Farm Grill or The Coffee Shop. If we do need to hop in our car, our first stop is Liberty Market for some bread pudding and a latte.
